Sri Lanka Wild Life

HAMBANTOTA
Leaving the hill country, you can journey on the Ella-Wellawaya route to Hambantota via Tissamaharama through dry land. In this area, little huts atop trees add to the beauty of the remote countryside and giveevidence of ‘shifting cultivation’ practiced by farmers. You will find sweet melon alongside the road that will help quench your thirst. Hambantota is famous for its salterns and buffalo curd. In the Hambantota district, there are two National Parks. According to your choice, you could visit one of these.

YALA NATIONAL PARK
From Hambantota, you could do a Safari Tour of the Yala National Park by Jeep. A tracker will accompany you into this friendly wilderness. You will see many animals including elephants, deer and leopard in the Park. Usually, the Safari Tour is done after a night’s stop inHambantota.

UDAWAWE NATIONAL PARK
Uda Walawe National Park is another situated towards the interior with a large reservoir within its bounds. Here, you will be able to see many elephants, wild boar, deer and jackal among other creatures. This park can be visited on your way from Nuwara Eliya. Lunch could be taken at Nuwara Eliya.
