The
unique concept of the Elephant Orphange of Pinnawala is one of the
most visited sites in Sri Lanka. Founded in the year 1975, with
three baby Elephants found abandoned in the forest, is today the
home of nearly 65 Elephants of Different ages and sizes. That roam
on a land extent of 25 acres where they are fed bathed and cared
for. It could be interesting to know that one of the first babies
brought in is now a grandma. These great animals are never sold
or put into any commercial use.
Bottle feeding of the baby Elephants is the highlight event of this
place. The elephants are led to the river ( across the street )
Twice a Day where they spend 2 Hours each time soaking rolling over,
spraying water and being scrubbed by their keepers. It is by far
one of the most interesting places to anyone no matter if you are
adult or kid. |
